Welcome to my Practice!
Seeking out psychological support can feel like a big decision and perhaps too great a step to undertake. Therefore, I am hoping to make this process a bit easier for you. First off, a little bit about myself and my background.
I have been working as a counsellor and mental health therapist since 2003, for non-profit organizations and in private practice, in both Canada 🇨🇦 and Germany 🇩🇪.
After my Master’s degree in pedagogy, I first trained in family/systemic therapy. For several years afterward, I frequently worked with children, youths, and families who had experienced traumatic events in their lives. Over time, it became increasingly evident that the difficulties many of my clients were presenting seemed to be linked to their traumatic history and/or their current traumatic circumstances. As such, I became increasingly involved in this topic and I decided to complete training in trauma therapy.
As you can imagine, in more than 20 years of practice, I have come across many different psychological challenges. I feel as though my experience in this field as a professional has continuously provided me new opportunities from which I can learn and grow. In this regard I feel lucky and think of my past and present clients with much gratitude.Â
Specialization
As mentioned, over the years, my therapeutic focus shifted more and more to the treatment of trauma and trauma-related symptoms, and I now specialize in this area. Consequently, in 2019, I became an EMDR Certified Therapist with the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).Â
While my professional approach is mostly trauma-focused, it is person-centered at its core. This means that I strive to support each client in their own individual process from a place of curiosity and non-judgement. That said, with my training and experience in EMDR Therapy as well as Family Therapy, Play Therapy, and Psychodrama, I believe that I am well equipped to work with all kinds of presentations.
Anxiety Disorders, Attachment Disorders, Depression, Dissociation, Eating Disorders, Family and Relationship Problems, Impulse Control Disorder, Neglect, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, Substance Use
For evidence-based therapies such as EMDR, protocol fidelity is key to success in therapy. Since I completed my psychological training in both Germany and Canada, I am very familiar with the various therapeutic protocols in both German and English. As such, I am able to fluently and confidently offer therapy in both languages. This includes the correct use of colloquial and technical terms, along with recognizing subtle linguistic differences, all of which increase the overall chances of success in therapy.
In addition, I regularly attend conferences and advanced training seminars. Here you can find a comprehensive list of my ongoing education and qualifications as a therapist.
Lastly, I also offer a free consultation prior to your first appointment to determine if my services are a good fit for you. Please contact me to arrange a 15 minute telephone or video consultation before booking your first session.
I look forward to meeting you!
